Sterilizers & Warmers
Sterilization refers to any process that eliminates or kills microbial life, including transmissible agents such as fungi, bacteria, viruses, etc, present on an outward or inward surface. Sterilization
can be achieved by applying the proper combinations of heat, chemicals, irradiation, high pressure, and filtration.
Boiling water kills the vegetative stage of all common microbes, provided the object is kept for min 20 minutes. Domestic Sterilizers are essentially containers with water and electrical heating elements wherein the object to be sterilized is dipped and kept for half hour and then used. Feeding Bottles, Soothers etc. must be sterilized before reuse to make them free from harmful bacteria
Warmers are either insulated containers which keep the food / liquid warm or electrically heated heaters which maintain a pre-set temperature. They are advised for keeping the milk or liquid or food warm or make it warm before feeding the child or patient.
